Organizing Files on Your PC: How to keep your saved receipts and statements in order on your PC
Do you sometimes end up with a complete mess of files with various and unorganized file names on your pc? Well, there is a very simple way to avoid this mish-mosh in the first place by creating a naming convention for yourself that you can stick with going forward. Once created, it will save you from thinking about what to name a file every time you have to save one, and finding a file will be a cinch.
Check out the below naming convention examples for saved receipts and statements on your pc; And if you would like to know how to save your online receipts straight to your pc, you can check it out
in my previous posting "SAVE THE TREES: 2 Simple & Quick Ways to save online payment receipts WITHOUT THE PAPER MONSTER FILE".
ROAD MAP FOR YOUR FILE NAMING CONVENTION:
Note: DATE = YYYY-MMDD or YY-MMDD
For Online or Scanned Receipts:
DATE COMPANY - (ITEM-s) $AMOUNT
Examples:
2013-1002 Apple - (Ipad Mini,Ipad screen cover,Stylus-black) $325
13-1002 Apple - (Ipad Mini,Ipad screen cover,Stylus-black) $325
For Online Bill Payment Confirmations:
COMPANY DATE pmt - Due Date (Stat Date) $AMOUNT
Examples:
LightCompany 2013-1002 pmt - 10-15 due (9-25 stat) $80
CableCompany 13-1002 pmt - due 10-15 (stat 9-25) $80
CreditCard Visa 13-1002 pmt - due 10-15 (stat 9-25) $100
For Online Statements:
DATE COMPANY Statement or Bill - Due Date $AMOUNT
Examples:
2013-1002 LightCompany Statement - Due 10-15 $80
13-1002 CableCompany Bill - Due 10-15 $80
13-1002 CreditCard Visa Statement - Due 10-15 $100
Once set, just make sure you use it. After all, you can't buy a broom to keep your floors clean, and expect it to clean your floors for you, can you? So, start sweeping. :)
Tip: Remember to use dashes (-) in your naming convention, as you cannot save with slashes (/) on most computers.
